SOLO DEV UNREAL ENGINE 5 PROJECTS THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT TO EXPORT

These are select solo-dev projects using Unreal Engine 5 that never got across the finish line.
I did everything from implementation to art to rigging, unless otherwise stated.

Untitled VHS Games

Run a VHS store and go through a box of used VHS tapes in the form of micro-games based on films. This micro game is based off Tokyo Drifter (1966) and a take on Simon Says where you shoot enemies in the sequence they shoot you in. Finishing a "level" activates scene lights via Level Sequencer, washing the environment in bright colours.

Character modeled, rigged, and posed in Blender and painted in Procreate.

Music by Chris M.

TECHNICAL STUFF
A flexible blueprint was created to create formations of enemies. On activation, it randomly sequences the enemies into an array, triggering a shoot animation each. Clicking on the enemies in the correct order in the array will yield success, while an incorrect order triggers a game over.

Bad Vibes

Enter the worst house party ever, where everyone is too preoccupied with their own drama to notice the insanity around them. As the only person with a phone, learn about rumours from partygoers and record video proof to help resolve them.

TECHNICAL STUFF
The phone uses a mix of in-world UI and render targets. A line trace from the camera picks up on actor tags to determine quest validity. The partygoers are created from a randomizing set of billboarded assets with data assets to show up on your phone. The entire cycle is a large level sequence that runs on rails.

Fingerblast

Ride finger skateboards and shoot rubber bands.

All assets made in Blender. Skateboard flips and spins were done in-engine.

TECHNICAL STUFF
The skateboarding system was created by modifying the "flying" locomotion in UE5, with logic to improve turn feel and gravity to mimic that of a skateboard. Rails are basic splines that, when in proximity, will let you grind. A basic enemy AI and projectile/damage system was created, along with targeting.

Kiss My Ass

As the janitor for the Bureau of Unbelievable Trouble Trackers (heroes that take down dangers to the city), use your plunger to shoot whatever you can at the giant ass kaiju destroying the city. Started as an exercise in a one-verb game, "plunge" quickly became "kiss".

TECHNICAL STUFF
A post-processing shader is applied game-wide for the stylized effect, and an inverted hull method was used for the outlines.
